Makewhatis -- for man -k

The man pages need to be processed to generate the whatis database so you can use the man -k or apropos feature. Run the command:

# /usr/lib/makewhatis

This takes a while, so you might want to run it in the background.

This isn't strictly necessary, as Irix does this periodically via cron, but if you're looking for information before it runs, you'll be stuck without it.

Set timezone

Set the timezone in file /etc/TIMEZONE. SGIs are made in California, so they ship set to Pacific time. Here on the Right Coast, we use:

TZ=EST5EDT

You'll need to reboot for this change to take affect, but you can wait until you've made the other small changes.
